Many support the construction of a port in Samaná

It’s vital to restore cruise tourism

A legislator and representatives of various sectors of Samana province (northwest) announced their support for the Government’s agreement with a developer to build a US$8.0 million cruise ship port in the town’s harbor.

In a gathering held in the town of Samana, ruling PLD party deputy Miguel Angel Jazmin and other representatives disputed a recent press report citing business and labor leaders, politicians and educators who allegedly oppose the Dominican Port Authority’s pact with the developer TEMARSAM, to build the facility at Tiro al Blanco.

He said the terminal construction is vital to restore Samana’s cruise tourism, boost the city’s economic activities and create a better life for the people of the Northeast.

“In Samana virtually all sectors linked to tourism, retail and the various productive activities agree on the need for the terminal and create the conditions so cruise passengers can enjoy the various attractions of a region that has everything”, Jazmin said.

Also present in the activity were Samana Retailers Association president Samuel Reyes (Piron), Samana Bay Boat Owners Association president Augusto Gonzalez, Samana Tourist Guides Association president Anibal Encarnacion, and Cayo Levantado Artisans Association president Eustacio Green.
