The electric energy distributor Luz y Fuerza de las Terrenas was awarded the Excellence in Business Tourism Sustainability Award in Samaná, given by the Samaná Tourism Cluster and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA).
The award is part of an environmental program developed by both entities with the collaboration of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) to reduce the presence of plastic waste in the seas of Central America and the Caribbean.
The award plaque states that “Luz y Fuerza Las Terrenas is awarded the 2023 Business Tourism Sustainability Award for its commitment to sustainability and biodiversity conservation in its tourism operation”.
The award was received by the Executive Director of Luz y Fuerza, Alejandra Orsini, and by the Director of Administration and Communication, Angela Orsini, as part of the program of the IX Annual Meeting for the Tourism Development of Samaná.”
“Luz y Fuerza’s goal is to be a role model in the search for a sustainable future,” said Alejandra Orsini upon receiving the recognition.
Alejandra Orsini said that the distributor is proud of its history as a pioneer in the development of the communities of Las Terrenas and Las Galeras, “where for more than three decades it has offered a continuous and efficient electric service, with a firm commitment to the environment and sustainable tourism.”
She explained that part of the electric energy it distributes is renewable, because its suppliers use wind, hydro and solar generation sources, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Mrs. Orsini also said that Luz y Fuerza applies “rigorous environmental management practices, minimizing the ecological footprint and promoting the conservation of natural resources. This family of 80 employees works in reforestation programs, cleaning of beaches and rivers, responsible waste management and environmental education programs to raise awareness in the community about waste management, the importance of saving and how each person can contribute to a cleaner environment.
