President Medina promised to help Samaná Producers

It includes loans with grace periods

In one of his usual trips, last Sunday President Medina visited Samaná, where he met with passion fruit and yam producers from La Pascuala and fishermen from Sanchez.

I’m going to those who can not come to me, proclaimed here on Sunday President Danilo Medina in response to those who criticize the policy of priority attention to the agricultural sector and the Dominican countryside in general.

President Danilo Medina pledged logistical and financial support to fishermen of Sánchez and Samaná and passion fruit and yam producers of La Pascuala, with funding for a six years period and a 16-month extension period at a rate of 5 % annual interest, to improve and increase their production.

He made it clear that have not yet finished all the 20,000 million pesos that the government has placed in private banks to finance agricultural production and industry.

He promised to help with credit and informed immediately that on wednesday a committee consisting of the director of the Fund for Agricultural Development (DFE), Antonio López, the administrator of the Agricultural Bank, Angel Estevez and the director of the Research and Biotechnology (IIBI), Bernarda Castillo, will determine the amount of resources they need and will discuss how to remove the arrears, not the capital, to improve their access to credit and financing.

To fishermen, grouped in Fishermen Association La Fe, promised credits to restore 55,000 meters of ponds. The association has 57 members and ponds have the capacity to produce 250 000 tilapia per year.

He also reminded that in Samana have been implemented the major works of tourism infrastructure, such as the road that runs along Las Terrenas and the other section under construction, between Punta Cana and Sabana de la Mar; where it will be installed a ferry service so that people can cross the bay and get to Samana with their own vehicle.

The fact is that everything takes time, because it involves huge investments and if the road cannot be completed this year, it will be completed next year and then we will begin to address the issue of the ferry from Sabana de la Mar to Cayo Levantado or to the old port of Samaná, said the President of the Republic.
