A festival to pay tribute to Andy Warhol

On Friday 25, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27, January 2013, colonial plaza

The colonial plaza could soon become the cultural center of Las Terrenas. It’s the objective of the Que Vaina workshop members and the Art Gallery. Maud Hézard, Minouche (Michèle Soria) and Cédric Spique organized the first multicultural festival dedicated to art in all its forms, that will take place on January 25th, 26th and 27th, 2013, to pay tribute to the great Andy Warhol. Documentary and films, music, visual arts and dance will be part of a program that will also include, exhibitions, performances and screenings.

The cultural event, named Famous for 15 minutes, is based on a concept issued by the Pop Art artist, which is among the most recognized of the twentieth century. The creator of the world’s most famous banana, was convinced that « in the future, everything would be famous for 15 minutes.

What if Andy Warhol was right ? Let’s get on stage to sing, dance, read poems in public… The audience is yours for fifteen minutes. There is only one rule: dare to do it, express your emotions ! Accept to be famous for a moment, to pay homage to Andy Warhol.

Friday January 25th, at 6 pm Exhibition in the plaza, tapas and bar. Improvisation Famous for 15 minutes. Four videos. Julian Schnabel’s Basquiat (1996, 108 min): documentary dedicated to the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), the first neo-expressionist black American artist who became famous in the United States.

Exit Through the Gift Shop Banksy (2010, 87 min): first documentary from the internationally renowned artist graphic designer.

Waste Land Lucy Walker (2010): documentary about Vik Muniz’s life during the three years he devoted to the realization of artistic projects in the heart of one of the world’s largest landfill in Rio de Janeiro. It was a participatory project that benefited from the contributions of the discharge employees and resulted in an unpublished work exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in 2012, as part of the international climate summit, Rio + 20.

Le Havre by Aki Kaurismäki (2011, 93 min): A Finnish-French-German drama. A shoeshiner from Le Havre (Frncia) decides to help hide a young African illegal immigrant.

Saturday January 26, at 6 pm Exhibition in the plaza, tapas and bar. Jessica Hirst exceptional artistic show 39 Duartes, improvisation Famous for 15 minutes.Projection of Chelsea Girls by Andy Warhol.

Sunday January 27, at 6 pm Exhibition in the plaza, tapas and bar. Improvisation Famous for 15 minutes. Surprise concert.
