Las Terrenas International School

Open enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year

Imagine a school where all the teachers have masters degrees in education, where there is a computer lab that is used daily, which has a library of over 10,000 books fully accessible to students and parents, where plenty of materials and art supplies are available for use in the classrooms, where native English speaking teachers, some of them specialized in bilingual education, teach bilingually so that all students learn English and Spanish, where all teachers are certified in the U.S., are multilingual and have traveled the world extensively, where the emphasis is on creativity, and music and art are part of the curriculum, where learning to learn and loving to learn are done close to nature instead of in traditional classrooms, where cutting edge methods in teaching physical education are used, where learning centers engage and inspire students in each classroom, where one breathes in an air of safety, mutual respect, protection of the environment, an emphasis on social justice and adherence to respect for human diversity.

Would you like your children to attend that school and learn to think critically, speak English and Spanish at a native level while expanding their social skills, and mental, intellectual and cultural curiosity ?

If you are interested this is precisely what Las Terrenas International School is planning for the 2014-2015 school year says Annette Snyder, director of the Center, a nonprofit program of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation since 2011.

She explains that the school’s intention has always been to contribute to the community through an educational philosophy focused on the development of life-long learners.

LTIS is seeking to contribute to the community of Las Terrenas a generation of multilingual, multicultural citizens who are critical thinkers, respectful of human diversity, capable of self-discipline and who actively participate in the creation of this dream of a better community for everyone.

For the year 2014-15 Las Terrenas International School has succeeded in attracting a highly qualified team of excellent teachers, some of whom regularly lead professional development workshops for other teachers, who possess knowledge of and skill in implementing an alternative pedagogy, and having worked in a variety of other centers in Santo Domingo and in the US, now come to Las Terrenas with the deep desire to contribute to the educational development of LTIS and inspire our students.

On Friday, June 6th, from 6pm – 8pm, Las Terrenas International School will hold an Open House (Open House) for all who want to see and learn more about the institution.

During the event the artist, Ms. Tamara Mitchell, who teaches art and 2nd/3rd grade at the school, will be presenting a new mural on an Ocean theme which will remain as a permanent contribution to LTIS.
