According to Adozona’s president, Luis José Bonilla Bojos, annualized free zone exports could exceed the US$8.5 billion threshold by the end of 2024.
The Dominican Association of Free Zones (ADOZONA) highlighted that free zone exports set a new record for the month of July, reaching a value of US$783.84 million.
This represents a solid 11.6% increase over the US$702.61 million exported in July 2023, according to preliminary results recently released by the Directorate General of Customs (DGA).
The data also reveals that total exports for July 2024 showed a 13.2% growth compared to the same month last year, totaling US$1,162.10 million versus US$1,026.23 million in July 2023.
Accumulated in the first seven months
The free trade zones achieved a new accumulated record of US$5,041.63 million up to July 2024, which represents a 7.5% growth compared to the US$4,690.54 million exported in the same period of the previous year.
This performance suggests that, if the current growth trend continues, annualized free zone exports could surpass the US$8.5 billion threshold by the end of 2024.
Adozona’s president, Luis José Bonilla Bojos, assured that these results reflect continued strong performance in the free zone sector and highlight the crucial role it plays in the national economy.
“Adozona celebrates these achievements and continues to work to promote growth and competitiveness in this vital sector for the country’s economic development,” Bonilla Bojos reiterated.
He also highlighted that these seven consecutive months of historic figures are a testament to the commitment and resilience of free zone companies, as well as Adozona’s continued support and alliances with the public sector.
He expressed that the association hopes that this momentum will translate into more opportunities and sustained growth, to further consolidate the position of free zones as a key pillar in the country’s economic development.
