The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, assured that the Government is taking measures to strengthen tourism infrastructure, for which it will invest US$20 million in the modernization of the Puerto Plata cable car.
“There was a risk with the cable car”, he indicated, while explaining that, despite the fact that the tour operators did not want to close it, the company that certified its opening when it had a breakdown, informed that it would no longer certify it, due to the fact that ‘it could fall down’.
He also pointed out that RD$700 million were invested in the Luperón wastewater and treatment plant, as well as RD$130 million in the completion of the Playa Cenote highway.
According to the official, RD$79 million were also invested in the repair of sidewalks and curbs in the Historic Center of Puerto Plata. He also explained that the Sosúa road is being asphalted, according to El Dinero.
“In a firm, forceful decision, determined to put an end to prostitution tourism in Sosúa, abuse of our children and adolescents, we are investing RD$600 million in the reconstruction of that beach,” he said.
Collado also cited the works that he left in operation during his administration, among which the Playa Dorada plant and the Maimon multipurpose, among others, stand out.
