After four and a half years, Aerolíneas Argentinas resumed its flights between Córdoba, Argentina and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, one of the most sought-after vacation destinations in the local market.
The first operation (AR1326), carried out with Boeing 737 MAX LV-GVD, landed at 20:38 last Friday, September 13 at Punta Cana International Airport.
From Cordoba, connections will be offered to and from cities such as Neuquén, Comodoro Rivadavia, Mar del Plata, San Juan, Mendoza, Resistencia, Tucumán or Bariloche, thus opening a new option for the Argentine hinterland.
Another important advantage is that the aircraft on the Cordoba – Punta Cana route starts and ends at Aeroparque, although passengers must get off the plane, check-in and go through immigration in the Mediterranean city.
Schedule of flights to Cordoba – Punta Cana
Cordoba – Punta Cana flight AR 1326 COR 14:00 – 20:50 PUJ / Fridays and Saturdays.
Punta Cana – Córdoba flight AR 1327 PUJ 22:05 – 07:00 COR / Fridays and Saturdays.
The new route will complement the four weekly flights departing from Buenos Aires/Ezeiza with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, offering an additional 2,176 seats per week. Indirectly, it competes with Arajet, which offers a daily flight to Santo Domingo/Las Americas with Boeing 737 MAX 8, which will be replaced in October with a non-stop flight from Punta Cana.
For the 2024/25 summer season, the route to Cordoba will increase from 2 to 4 flights per week and Buenos Aires from 4 to 6 per week. In addition, there will also be non-stop flights from Punta Cana to Rosario and Tucumán every week, according to Aviacionline.
Punta Cana is one of the busiest destinations for Aerolíneas Argentinas. According to data from ANAC Argentina, in 2023 the state-owned company transported 78,030 passengers with an occupancy rate of 92%. The National Statistics Office (ONE) of the Dominican Republic highlights that last year some 199,668 Argentines arrived in the Caribbean country, mainly through connections in Lima, Panama City, São Paulo, Miami or Bogota.
It is recalled that Argentina is the second country in South America with the highest number of tourists visiting the Dominican Republic and ranks fourth worldwide. The return of Aerolineas Argentinas to Punta Cana from Argentina’s second most important city, in terms of population, will diversify the flow of passengers and contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries.
