The National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) inaugurated this Thursday at the Yluminada Mejía Basic School, in this city, the first psychomotor skills classroom in the public education sector, a program that seeks for children to have a better motor, affective and intellectual development.
Franklin Duval, Inefi’s deputy general director, led the ceremony, highlighting that Jacobo Moquete -together with Richard Almaguer López- is one of the main promoters of this program’s initiative, whose objective is that the children can have an adequate process of integral development in their person.
“This educational center marks a milestone in the improvement of educational quality and psychomotor development of children in Dominican schools. Today we must thank President Luis Abinader, the Minister of Education, Angel Garcia, and our executive director of Inefi, Alberto Rodriguez Mella,” he said.
Meanwhile, the director of the educational center, Enrique Castillo, thanked the initiative of Inefi for taking into account that this educational institution has the first psychomotricity classroom in the public educational sector.
In this sense, Moquete considered that every public or private educational center should include a psychomotor skills room, to provide its students with a special space that helps young children to discover their abilities and to express themselves through their bodies.
She indicated that when children spend time in this special room they can master their body movements, while improving their relationships and the way they communicate with other children. This benefits them to have a better school education.
Jacobo Moquete said that the psychomotor classroom motivates children to use their senses to recognize the sensations they generate in their bodies and gives them greater confidence to express themselves at any time.
He pointed out that the room creates awareness and respect for the space of others, and it must be attractive so that children want to stay in it. To achieve this, there must be basic aspects such as maintaining a pleasant temperature, good lighting and having various materials that encourage children to participate in the activities.
Benefits of the psychomotor room
The size of the room should be adequate for a group of children to be able to live together and perform the different activities. The space can be divided by areas, according to the objectives to be followed, such as:
Experiencing sensations. In order for children to develop certain skills, they must experience the sensations generated by their bodies when performing certain actions.
Acquire certain roles. Children can play to lead an adult life, where they must follow certain rules that are necessary to have a healthy coexistence with all people.
Express their thoughts and emotions. Children should feel free to express everything they experience in any way, building, drawing, dancing or doing any other activity.
Teachers can include various materials in the psychomotor classroom, always considering the age of the children for greater safety. They are responsible for providing the materials to the children and watching over them while they make use of them.
