The general director of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), Igor Rodriguez, stated that, as a result of the recent signing of the Open Skies agreement with the United States and having passed the audit of the Federal Administration of North America (FAA), which confirms Category 1, the Dominican Republic reaffirms itself as one of the most important destinations for international tourism.
“We are a perfect place from which to hub at all levels, not only for aviation, but also in maritime terms. That helps us, with a good country strategy, to make civil aviation develop in the best possible way,” he said.
He added that, in addition to the advantages, there is also the relevant role played by technologies, which, when properly used in civil aviation, guarantee operational safety, save lives and collaborate so that, besides the sense of humanity and the preparation involved in flying an aircraft, they are a guarantee when it comes to complying with the quality standards required internationally in the aeronautical system.
In addition to making the best use of technologies, the general director of the IDAC is committed, from his management, to promote better infrastructure conditions in the country’s international airports, to ensure greater operational safety.
As the country is a member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with direct participation in decision-making that defines regulations and standards worldwide, the official reaffirmed his commitment to work so that the nation continues to be a benchmark for compliance with aviation standards in the region.
“The Dominican Republic, without a doubt, is very well positioned, we bet to take civil aviation to the next level where we are now and place ourselves at the height of the situation, given the moment we live as aviation worldwide. Due to our geographic position, with our closest and most important trading partner, the United States of America, our participation and influence before international organizations is very relevant”, he emphasized.
The official was hopeful that, in the coming years, given the Open Skies agreements with the United States, plus the confirmation of Category 1, the country and locally registered aircraft will have more access to that market and aligned with the number of airports we have as a State and the flow of visitors, “places us in an important situation at the level of the region.”
