Real estate tourism is key to consolidate DR economy

Real estate tourism has become a key factor in the diversification and consolidation of economic growth, acting as a transversal axis that drives the development of various sectors of the national economy.

According to the Dominican Association of Tourism Real Estate Companies (ADETI), in the last five years, this sector has attracted investments in excess of US$1.4 billion.

ADETI considers it essential to continue fostering a climate of confidence and legal certainty to promote the development of new tourism real estate projects in different destinations in the country.

It also stresses the importance of maintaining public policies to promote the development of tourism, under Law 158-01, as the main tool to achieve greater competitiveness and maintain the Dominican Republic as a leading destination in the Caribbean.

The appreciations were expressed by members of ADETI’s board of directors, including Eduardo Read, Yudith Castillo, Luis José Asilis and Michael Lugo, during the meeting, they exchanged impressions on the development of real estate tourism in the country and its great economic and investment value.

It is recalled that ADETI has generated more than 34,000 direct jobs and has contributed a large part of the 124,000 rooms in non-hotel accommodations. In addition, its investment portfolio exceeds US$10 billion, earmarked for construction in already developed destinations.

The organization manages a total land area of 232.1 million square meters, of which 49.1 million are dedicated to the development of basic services infrastructure, according to Diario Libre.

The sector has experienced significant growth in investments, as reflected in statistics from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur). Through the Tourism Development Council (Confotur), in the first six months of 2024, 28 projects have been approved with definitive classifications: 19 real estate, 5 of a mixed nature (real estate and hotel), 3 hotel and 1 recreational (cultural theme park).
