Press conference officially announces Cross Country @ Playa Morón 2013

The race will take place on Sunday, June 30

The beautiful turquoise-blue sea of Playa Morón was the stage to the press conference carried out June 13 announcing the first 10k road race and athletic event in the area of Playa Morón, Agua Sabrosa and El Limón, Samaná, the Cross Country @ Playa Moron, 2013.

Cross Country @ Playa Morón, 2013 will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2013 starting at 8:30 in the morning from the beautiful beach of El Morón toward the village of Agua Sabrosa, through an exciting course by a scenic, exuberant and lush tropical countryside.

Originally, the event was open to just 200 runners, however due to high demand and interest shown, we decided to increase 50 additional slots at a special price of RD $1,600.00. This additional RD $1,000.00 on the registration fee will be matched by Cap El Limon Samana, and the total will be used to support T3 El Limón, a triathlon and athletics team made up of the area’s youngsters interested in these sports, commented Pedro Messina, Project Manager of Cap El Limón Samana.

There will be a total of RD $172,000.00 in prizes for the winners of the overall and different categories of the 10k run, and those participating in the non-competitive 5k run or walk will receive a participation medal and a commemorative T-shirt. This event is supported by Cap El Limon Samana, endorsed by the Dominican Federation of Athletic Associations, FEDOMATLE, organized by Sports Solutions DR, and it is the first international athletic event in the El Limón-Playa Morón area recognized by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, AIMS.

Cross Country @ Playa Morón, 2013, in addition to Las Terrenas 10k, are the leading athletics events in Samaná, and have already attracted the attention of national and international competitors, but more important, they have encouraged the youth of the area to consider athletics as an alternative life style. Furthermore, these events have made Samaná a preferred sport-tourism destination in the Dominican Republic, adds Alma Arellano, Director General of Sports Solutions DR, the group responsible for the organization of these events.
